The Tairāwhiti Environment Centre wouldn’t be complete without a thriving garden. Located out the back of the Hub on Palmerston Road, our community garden is a space where anyone is welcome to come and learn about the many regenerative gardening techniques we use to create an abundant and thriving ecosystem. The garden was designed to illustrate sustainable principles and show some of the ways in which a typical suburban backyard can be transformed into a productive and edible landscape.
In our community garden, you’ll find native trees, herb and vegetable gardens, a beehive, fruit trees, and multiple organic composting systems. We are continually developing the garden with new systems, and we welcome volunteers to come and lend a hand, or share their ideas and knowledge.
From composting workshops to beekeeping 101, there’s always something going on in our maara. Keep an eye on our social media pages for upcoming events and workshops.
