Waihirere Domain
TEC has been working alongside mana whenua Ngati Wahia at Waihirere Domain since 2013. With support from DOC, GDC , Nga Whenua Rahuiu and local conservationists, there have been two ‘Bioblitz’ events highlighting the ecological richness of the this forest reserve. A group of rangatahi from Waihirere have formed the ‘Ecowarriors’, young people exercising kaitiakitanga for their traditional whenua. TEC has supported these efforts, and helped source funding for a pest trapline for the reserve.
